HC Deb 03 May 1960 vol 622 c871
25. Mr. T. Fraser

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland why, in the preparation of the Digest of Scottish Statistics, the Index of Production has not been revised to make it comparable to the Index of Production for the United Kingdom as a whole.

Mr. N. Macpherson

The information derived from the 1954 census of production, which has been used to create the base of the United Kingdom index of production, was not available for Scotland for some time after it was available for the United Kingdom. The work of revising the Scottish index started as soon as the information was available, and it is hoped to publish an index which will be directly comparable with the United Kingdom index in the October 1960 issue of the Digest of Scottish Statistics.
