§ 23. Mr. Deedesasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether proposals to develop property in Catherine Place, Westminster, and in Buckingham Gate, have yet been referred to him, in view of the historic interest of 17 and 18 Buckingham Gate; and what observations he has made.
§ Sir K. JosephYes, Sir. The London County Council consulted my right hon. Friend about alternative schemes affecting these properties. He made no comments on the proposals for Catherine Place and No. 18 Buckingham Gate, but he said that the demolition of No. 17 would in his view be regrettable, and asked the London County Council to consult him again before it came to a decision.
§ Mr. DeedesIn view of the fact that No. 17 has been scheduled, and that my right hon. Friend has therefore an interest in it and a responsibility for it, can my hon. Friend say what steps will be taken if it is decided to proceed with the development as a whole?
§ Sir K. JosephWe must leave this to see what is decided by the London County Council, which is considering the matter in the light of the representations being made by my hon. Friend and in the light of discussions. It will, we know, take into account my right hon. Friend's special interest in No. 17.
