§ 19. Lieut.-Colonel Bromley-Davenportasked the Minister of Education whether he will set up an advisory panel of experts to compare the costs of building various forms of educational establishments, including instructional colleges, with a view to placing such information at the disposal of local authorities, nationalised undertakings and other bodies engaged in educational activities.
§ Sir D. EcclesI agree with my hon. and gallant Friend that information of this kind is very useful. It is already available through my Department's Building Bulletins and through cost analyses of educational buildings published from time to time in the architectural journals.
§ Lieut.-Colonel Bromley-DavenportWould it not be a good thing if my right hon. Friend would get this advisory panel to take a look at these so-called staff colleges run by the nationalised industries, like the one at Mere College in my constituency, to make quite certain that the money is being well spent and not being wasted? Otherwise, how can the unfortunate taxpayers who provide the money ever find out whether it has been well spent and what is going on at these places?
§ Sir D. EcclesThe matter raised by my hon. and gallant Friend is undoubtedly of interest, but it does not concern my Department.
