20. Mr. Marquand

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he proposes to implement the recommendations of the University Grants Committee concerning the supplementation of benefits payable under the superannuation scheme for universities.

Mr. Amory

I understand that the University Grants Committee has in course of preparation a revised supplementary pension scheme on the lines recommended by the Hale Committee Report on the Superannuation of University Teachers. It is hoped to bring it into effect at an early date.

Mr. Marquand

Does the right hon. Gentleman remember that the Hale Report recommended very quick action on this particular aspect of the scheme before any consideration of an alteration in the scheme itself? Can he give some idea when an early date might be?

I hope, within a few weeks—within three or four weeks, I should think.
