HC Deb 03 March 1960 vol 618 c1393
1. Mr. Nabarro

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will give up-to-date figures showing how the exports of commercial vehicles have changed since the Purchase Tax on such vehicles was abolished in the last Budget.

The Minister of State, Board of Trade (Mr. F. J. Erroll)

I would refer the hon. Member to Account II of the Trade and Navigation Accounts.

Mr. Nabarro

I am grateful to my right hon. Friend, but has he perceived that in the last quarter of 1959 exports of commercial vehicles from this country increased by the very large margin of 50 per cent. compared with the comparable quarter in the preceding year, and is not this a manifest of the important results of the Nabarro plan for Purchase Tax?

Mr. Erroll

Many factors enter into the reasons for good export performance. One must remember that other export countries also have been doing well.

Mr. Nabarro

But was not that the most important factor?
