asked the Minister of Labour the numbers of persons registered as unemployed, both male and female, together with the percentage rates of unemployment, both male and female, in the Gateshead and district area for the latest convenient date, together with figures for each twelve months preceding; and if he will give separate figures for Gateshead.

May I ask the Minister of Labour if the figures show that there has been heavy and persistent unemployment? If they do, what is he doing in the matter? Also, will he draw to the attention of his right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade the fact that there is a very good reason why this
