HC Deb 01 March 1960 vol 618 c1024
39. Mr. G. M. Thomson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how long it will take to complete the trial borings which have been authorised in connection with the building of a Tay road bridge at Dundee.

Mr. Maclay

I understand that the boring will start in about three weeks and will take about two months to complete.

Mr. Thomson

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that, on the basis of that Answer, local authorities will be able to lay the Provisional Order with the completed plans before Parliament by next November, but yet it is said that it will take the Government six years after that to get the bridge completed? Will the right hon. Gentleman repudiate this timetable and tell us that the matter will be treated much more urgently?

Mr. Maclay

I have not heard the statement to which the hon. Gentleman refers, but each stage of the operation will receive my most careful consideration as it is reached.
