HC Deb 01 March 1960 vol 618 cc1013-4
21. Mr. Millan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what arrangements have been made in the current year for the submission of tenders for house-building by the Direct Labour Department of the Scottish Special Housing Association Limited

Mr. Maclay

The Association's Direct Labour Organisation will submit competitive estimates for any multi-storey flats which the Association proposes to to build, and also for all other types of houses except those in poured concrete construction. The latter will continue for the present to be reserved for the Direct Labour Organisation, which has specialised in this type of construction.

Mr. Millan

May I take it from the right hon. Gentleman's reply that there is no restriction as to the number of houses for which the S.S.H.A. may tender through the Direct Labour Department? There have been restrictions on the number built in the past. May I take it that these restrictions continue but that there are no restrictions on the number to be tendered for?

Mr. Maclay

That is another question. I should be grateful if the hon. Gentleman would put it on the Order Paper. I should not like to answer it offhand, but I think that the answer is that there is no restriction.

Mr. McInnes

Will the right hon. Gentleman give an assurance that he has no intention of liquidating this organisation?

Mr. Maclay

I can certainly state that I have no intention of liquidating that organisation.
