HC Deb 21 June 1960 vol 625 c210
35. Mr. Woodburn

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware of the losses of valuable herds incurred in farm fires; and whether he will take steps to ensure that all farm buildings are equipped by already existing automatic mechanical devices for releasing trapped animals.

Mr. Leburn

I have nothing to add at present to the reply given on this matter yesterday by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

Mr. Woodburn

Is not the hon. Gentleman aware that that reply said that the Minister had not heard of it? Is he aware that I am informed that apparatus exists that can open doors in case of fire and allow trapped animals to escape? A great deal of valuable stock is lost in this way. Is he prepared to look into it if information is sent to him about it?

Mr. Leburn

Certainly.
