§ 29. Mr. Rankinasked the Minister of Aviation what proposals he has received for the construction of a new hotel at Prestwick Airport; and if he will give details of the estimated design, size, and cost.
§ Mr. RipponNo definite proposals have yet been received.
§ Mr. RankinDoes the hon. Gentleman realise that that Answer confirms the view of a growing number of people in Scotland that he and his right hon. Friend regard Prestwick as merely a staging post between New York and London? If that be the case, does he think that that is the proper way to treat the increasing number of visitors who will be coming to and using Prestwick as a result of the introduction of the big jets? Can he tell me why it is not possible by next summer to have a modern, up-to-date hotel at Prestwick Airport?
§ Mr. RipponI do not realise any such thing. I do not think that it is true. We have made arrangements for the provision of a site for the hotel. The existing hotel will continue in use at least until June, 1963.
