§ 16. Mr. Marquandasked the Minister of State for Commonwealth Relations whether Her Majesty's Government are proposing to make a gift to Nigeria to commemorate the attainment of independence on 1st October.
§ Mr. AlportYes, Sir, it has been decided to present to the Government of the Federation of Nigeria, to commemorate Nigeria's attainment of independence, a gift of table silver which could be used on formal State occasions in Lagos. The Federal Prime Minister has told us that he welcomes this gift.
§ Mr. MarquandIs the Minister aware that hon. Members on this side also very much welcome the decision of Her Majesty's Government to make this gift, and are very pleased that the Minister has had such a cordial response from the Prime Minister of Nigeria?
