HC Deb 26 July 1960 vol 627 c1262
Miss Herbison

With your permission, Mr. Speaker, and that of the House, I beg to ask leave to present a Petition asking that the trunk road A.8 be diverted to by-pass the village of Harthill. This Petition has been organised by the road safety committee of that village and is supported by the signatures of 1,999 citizens all resident in the village.

The Petition draws attention to the constant and increasingly serious danger to the citizens. More pedestrians, children and old people particularly, have lost their lives on the road in Harthill than on any other stretch of this trunk road. The danger will be greatly increased with the industrial development on this road and, because of this, my constituents fear greatly for the safety of their children and their old people.

The Petition concludes with these words: Wherefore, your petitioners pray that you immediately take steps to divert this road to by-pass the village. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.

To lie upon the Table.
