asked the Postmaster-General why, since the introduction of the system whereby 100 is dialled in place of TOL and TRU, there has been an increased delay in obtaining an answer from the operator.

§ Mr. Bevins
The delay in obtaining an answer from the operator is not 479 caused by the introduction of the 100 code, but is due to a shortage of operating staff. I am sorry that the service is not as good as I would wish, but I should like to assure my hon. Friend that every effort is being made to improve it.
