HC Deb 12 July 1960 vol 626 c1166
31. Mr. C. Hughes

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will now build further advance factories in areas of high unemployment.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade (Mr. John Rodgers)

My right hon. Friend is keeping the matter under review, but no decision has yet been reached.

Mr. Hughes

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the advance factory in Anglesey has been let to an excellent firm months before completion? Does not this and other inquiries prove that such factories are a real inducement to industries? If the hon. Gentleman has confidence in the policy, why does he not build more in areas of high unemployment?

Mr. Rodgers

I am delighted that the Holyhead factory has been let to Midland Electric Manufacturers Limited, but as I said in my original Answer, the question of where further advance factories should be built is being discussed between Departments.
