HC Deb 28 January 1960 vol 616 cc358-9
37. Mr. K. Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has now received the advice of the Criminal Law Revision Committee on proposed changes in the law of suicide; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. R. A. Butler

This matter was referred to the Committee only in November, and I cannot yet say when it will be possible for it to submit a report.

Mr. Robinson

Is it not the case that the whole question of reform in this field is waiting on the Committee's decision on one comparatively minor point? Would the right hon. Gentleman do his best to expedite the Committee's consideration of this matter?

Mr. Butler

Without interfering with the discretion of the Committee, I will certainly indicate that we would like to get a report as early as we can.
