HC Deb 27 January 1960 vol 616 cc157-8
48. Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Transport what progress has been made with the electrification of the Fen-church Street-Tilbury-Southend line under the capital development modernisation plan.

Mr. Hay

The British Transport Commission has informed us that the main scheme is likely to be completed in 1961. The installation of the overhead and the lineside electrical equipment is proceeding and the complete resignalling of the line has begun. The two flyovers and the flyunder at Barking were completed in 1959 and the reconstruction of the station buildings there has been started. The new marshalling yard at Ripple Lane, which has already been brought partly into use, will be completed this year.
