38. Mr. G. Wilsonasked the Minister of Transport if he will make a statement with regard to Her Majesty's Government's further policy in respect of canals, following the recommendations of the Bowes Committee on Inland Waterways, and Command Paper No. 676.
§ Mr. MarplesI am closely examining this matter and the complex issues involved but I am not yet able to make a statement.
Mr. WilsonWould my right hon. Friend appreciate that the policy set out in Command Paper No. 676 deals with only a small part of the recommendations of the Bowes Committee, and will he do everything possible to speed up his decision on the remaining and major part of the recommendations?
§ Mr. MarplesI certainly will, but it would be easier to deal with this problem if we had more experience of the 167 practical possibilities of redevelopment which the Parham Committee was set up to consider.
