§ 13. Mrs. Whiteasked the Minister of Works which items relating to expenditure in that part of the Palace of Westminster occupied by the Commons are borne on the Vote of his Department.

§ Mrs. WhiteDoes not the right hon. Gentleman think that the time has now come when all these items ought to be put together on a House of Commons Vote, to be dealt with as such, in the same way as another place has its own Vote?
§ Lord John HopeI think it works very well as it is.
§ Following is the list:
- 1. Building and engineering work in connection with the repair and maintenance of the fabric and alterations and additions to it.
- 2. Provision, maintenance and operation of engineering plant and equipment, and of electricity, gas and water services.
- 3. Provision and maintenance of all furniture, furnishings and fittings.
- 4. Cleaning of the Chamber, lobbies, entrances, waiting halls, corridors and lavatories.
- 5. Care of works of art, and the occasional provision of additional ones.
