Mr. Hunterasked the Minister of Aviation what progress he has made in his study of the report of the Spanish authorities into the accident to the British-owned Transair Dakota aircraft in the Pyrenees on 19th August, 1959; and when he expects to make a statement as to the cause of the accident.
§ Mr. RipponMy right hon. Friend proposes to publish the report received from the Spanish authorities. It will be on sale at the Stationery Office on 9th March. I will send copies to the hon. Member and to other hon. Members who have expressed an interest in the accident.
§ Mr. HunterCan the Minister inform me whether a public inquiry was held into this tragic accident in addition to the investigation by the Spanish authorities? Is he aware that there is great concern about this accident among student organisations?
§ Mr. RipponThere was no public inquiry, but three members of the Accidents Investigation Branch visited Spain and co-operated with the investigating authorities.
