HC Deb 10 February 1960 vol 617 c460
37. Mr. Healey

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what recent consultations he has had with other co-signatories concerning the implementation of the Geneva Agreement about Indo-China.

Mr. Profumo

There has been no recent formal consultation, but we have been in close touch with other interested Governments.

Mr. Healey

Can the Minister of State unequivocally deny a circumstantial account, which appeared in the periodical U.S. News & World Report of 25th January this year, to the effect that Her Majesty's Government had reached a secret agreement with the Government of the United States for military intervention in Laos in certain circumstances? Does he agree that such an agreement, if made, would be totally contrary to Britain's obligations under the Geneva Agreement?

Mr. Profumo

It would really be most dangerous and damaging if I were to start to contradict statements which are quoted by hon. Members in the House. I should have to look at that document first.
