§ 11. Mr. Boydenasked the Minister of Transport if he will give a general direction to the British Transport Commission to allow railwaymen dismissed through redundancy to continue their tenancies of railway houses.
§ Mr. HayNo, Sir. This is a matter of management for which the British Transport Commission is responsible, but I understand the Commission makes every effort to avoid hardship in cases of this kind.
§ Mr. BoydenDoes the Minister agree that it is relatively easy for the Commission to retain these tenancies but that it is a matter of great hardship for the individual who is dispossessed? Will the Minister try to bring some influence to bear an the Commission?
§ Mr. HayI do not think that any influence needs to be brought in this case. The Commission is well aware of the difficulties, as a recent case makes clear, but I will see that the hon. Member's remarks are brought to the chairman's notice.
