§ 21. Mr. Rankinasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether British expatriate officers who continue in the civil service of Tanganyika after that country obtains self-government will qualify for pension.
§ Mr. Iain MacleodYes, if they are serving on permanent and pensionable terms. It is my sincere hope that the great majority of such officers will continue to serve in Tanganyika after it becomes self-governing.
§ Mr. RankinJust to make the position quite clear, may I take it that if these officers remain in the service of the new Government they will get the pensions they have earned, plus the salary for the job they are doing?
§ Mr. MacleodYes. I think that there is no doubt about that.
