§ 20. Mr. Peytonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will conduct an overhaul of Customs procedure, particularly in relation to goods transported by air, in order to relieve exporters of the difficulties which arise from delays.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydThe Customs procedures are kept under review. I am not aware of any general difficulties, but if my hon. Friend has any particular suggestions to make I shall be very pleased to consider them.
§ Mr. PeytonI am obliged to my right hon. and learned Friend. Would he consider issuing a directive to those concerned that it is their duty to keep goods on the move with the minimum of delay and restriction? Would he bear in mind that irksome restrictions and delays will do a great deal to diminish the fun that is sometimes associated with exports?
§ Mr. LloydI agree with my hon. Friend's proposition and I think that the Customs authorities would, too. It 1049 would be helpful if any cases of unnecessary delay could be brought to my attention.
