HC Deb 12 April 1960 vol 621 c1078
36. Mr. Willis

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proposals he has for expanding the programme of public works, other than roads, in Scotland to assist in providing employment.

Mr. Maclay

The programme of works in Scotland for which I am responsible is already expanding and I expect that this year it will continue to expand.

Mr. Willis

Once again this is dodging the issue. Is not the right hon. Gentleman aware that now that we have nearly 100,000 unemployed he ought to be expanding our housing programme, our forestry programme, our road programme, and all the things that would help to reduce that number?

Mr. Maclay

I appreciate the hon. Gentleman's point, but I have pointed out that the programme is expanding.
