HC Deb 07 April 1960 vol 621 c538
8. Mr. Hayman

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress has been made in the acquisition of the additional land needed to complete the Rosewarne Horticulture Experimental Station, Comborne, Cornwall.

Mr. Godber

Since this station was established in 1952, 5½ acres of adjoining land have been purchased. The question of further acquisitions has been under consideration from time to time, but I am not in a position to make any statement about this.

Mr. Hayman

Will the Parliamentary Secretary take into account the fact that this station is doing exceedingly good work, that it is desirable that it should be extended to take in land adjacent to it. and will he do what he can to speed that transaction, subject only to not being required to pay an inordinate price for it?

Mr. Godber

I am glad the hon. Member included the last few words in his supplementary question. He and I have discussed this matter, and there are problems. I am as anxious as he is to see some extension of this station, and I hope that we shall be able to achieve it.
