HC Deb 07 April 1960 vol 621 cc556-7
36. Major Legge-Bourke

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will now announce the terms of the Annual Agreement with Bulgaria regarding the 1960–61 importation of fruit pulp, showing details of quantities and prices in respect of each variety of fruit, and the operative dates.

Mr. Erroll

The quotas for the import of fruit pulp from Bulgaria in the twelve months ending 31st March, 1961, are:

Strawberry and raspberry pulp 1,500 tons
Apricot and peach pulp 1,000tons
Other kinds 500 tons
The quotas have been determined, on this occasion, by weight. Prices are a matter for the traders concerned.

Major Legge-Bourke

Will my hon. Friend accept the assurance that this decision will be greatly welcomed in the strawberry-growing areas in particular? Will he, however, watch carefully to ensure that what he has said in answer to Question No. 29 concerning the Poles does not undermine all the benefit that is likely to be derived from the agreement?

Mr. Enroll

Naturally, I welcome my hon. and gallant Friend's assurance. I will try to interpret exactly what he meant by his reference to Question No. 29.
