HC Deb 05 April 1960 vol 621 cc189-90
38. Mr. N. Pannell

asked the Minister of Works on what public buildings in England and Wales the Union Jack and St. George's Flag will be flown on St. George's Day, 23rd April, 1960; and if he will ensure that there will be an adequate supply of such flags for the purpose.

The Minister of Works (Lord John Hope)

On St. George's Day, 23rd April, 1960, public buildings under my control in England which have two or more flag poles will fly the Union Flag with the St. George's Flag; where there is only one flag pole, the Union Flag will be flown. An adequate supply of flags will be available.

Mr. Pannell

In view of the fact that the gracious consent of Her Majesty to this innovation was not the subject of any Parliamentary pronouncement, will my noble Friend ensure that the widest publicity will be given to this decision which invests the National Day of England with the same significance as the National Days of Scotland and Wales?

Lord John Hope

I am sure that Parliamentary Questions always receive adequate publicity.
