HC Deb 05 April 1960 vol 621 c187
33. Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will appoint a Seychellois to the vacant post of Director of Agriculture in the Seychelles; and whether, in view of the concern about this matter in the Colony, he will ensure that, where suitable candidates are forthcoming, priority in Seychelles appointments will always be given to inhabitants of the Colony.

Mr. Alport

A local candidate, Mauritian by birth but long resident in Seychelles, has already been appointed Director of Agriculture in Seychelles. There, as elsewhere in the Colonial Territories, it is always the practice to fill vacant posts with local candidates, if suitable local candidates are available.
