§ Mr. BevinsThe first stage will be the completion in 1961 of the link between Canada and the United Kingdom. A conference, recently concluded in Sydney, has recommended that the net stage should be the completion by 1964 of a cable linking Canada, New Zealand and Australia. The Government of the United Kingdom expect to reach early conclusions on this proposal, and I am confident that the other Commonwealth Governments will also reach decisions soon. I cannot yet forecast a timetable for further links.
