HC Deb 24 November 1959 vol 614 c184
11. Mr. Turner

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies which international airlines, other than Malayan Airways, are at present using the airport at Labuan, North Borneo, as a scheduled stop; and what is the number of flights per month by each airline.

Mr. J. Amery

Cathay Pacific Airways.

There are four calls per month in each direction on the Hong Kong-Kuching service.

Mr. Turner

Does my hon. Friend appreciate that these figures indicate that fewer and fewer airlines are using this strategic airfield? Further, is he aware that this is due to the total inadequacy over a considerable number of years of arrangements for bringing the airfield up to modern standards? Will he look into the matter?

Mr. Amery

I am glad to be able to tell my hon. Friend that much is being done on the development of the airport, both by the R.A.F. and on the civilian side.
