HC Deb 04 November 1959 vol 612 c1017
16. Mr. M. Lindsay

asked the Minister of Transport why the white lines down the middle of the main road through St. Albans, an outstanding bottleneck, were repainted during a peak traffic period, between 4 and 5 p.m. on Friday, 16th October, thereby causing the maximum inconvenience to many people, instead of being repainted in a slack period such as the early part of the morning, preferably on a Sunday.

Mr. Hay

No repainting of white lines was carried out on the afternoon of 16th October on the main trunk roads through St. Albans. Repainting on A.6 was carried out until 3.30 p.m. on Thursday, 15th October. Thursday was chosen because it is the day of lightest through traffic.
