HC Deb 04 November 1959 vol 612 c1002
17. Mr. John Hall

asked the Minister of Transport what proportion of drivers now hold licences valid for three years.

Mr. Hay

At 31st May, 1959, the latest date for which figures are available, 60 per cent. of the driving licences current were valid for three years from the date of issue.

Mr. Hall

As apparently in the near future all drivers will be charged 15s. for their 5s. licences, on which issuing authorities are making at least 10s. a licence profit, may we expect a reduction in the cost of licences?

Mr. Hay

That is another question.
