HC Deb 12 May 1959 vol 605 cc1020-1
4. Mr. Ernest Davies

asked the. Minister of Works the regulations governing the use of carriageways in the Royal Parks by all-purpose passenger vehicles such as the Dormobile.

The Minister of Works (Mr. Hugh Molson)

In Royal Parks where limited carriage traffic is permitted, vehicles of this type are allowed to enter provided they are not constructed, adapted or being used for the purpose of any trade or business, or as a dwelling; and provided they are not designed to seat more than seven passengers in addition to the driver..

In Bushy Park all types of vehicle are permitted on the direct road between Teddington and Hampton Court.

Mr. Ernest Davies

While thanking the Minister for clarifying the position, may I ask him whether he can arrange that adequate instructions are given to the custodians of the park so that there is some consistency in the enforcement of the regulations? Is he aware that sometimes people are stopped and not permitted into the park and at other times, when using the same vehicle, they are permitted into the park? Is he aware that there is no consistency in the operation of the regulations?

Mr. Molson

I am obliged to the hon. Member for drawing my attention to that fact. I did not know that it was so. I will try to ensure that there is uniformity in administration.
