§ 44. Mrs. Mannasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will now announce the terms of reference of the social survey on consumer protection, and the extent to which it is intended to consult weights and measures inspectors and women's organisations representing large bodies of consumers, as was done by the Hodgson Committee.
§ Mr. J. RodgersMy right hon. Friend is not yet ready to announce the terms of reference and the name of the chairman of the Departmental Committee on Consumer Protection but he hopes to do so shortly. The Committee will seek the views of the various women's organisations, but will not be concerned with the law on weights and measures.
§ Mrs. MannAs the Hodgson Report of 1951 was one on weights and measures, and now that the weights and measures men find that in this prepack age some weight should be displayed on the packet, why not call them in?
§ Mr. RodgersI think there is a slight confusion in the hon. Lady's mind between weights and measures and the Departmental Committee on Consumer Protection. The social survey to which she makes reference in the Question, which is being carried out by the Central Office of Information, deals exclusively with weights and measures which the Departmental Committee on Consumer Protection excludes.
