HC Deb 09 March 1959 vol 601 c882
47. Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Health whether he will arrange for the opening for longer periods on Sundays, during this epidemic period, of all chemists' shops and dispensaries in the Dagenham area.

Mr. Walker-Smith

No, Sir. The arrangements in Dagenham are similar to those generally in operation, and I have had no evidence that anything exceptional is required.

Mr. Parker

When there is a great deal of 'flu about, as at the present time, it is surely unsuitable that people should have to wait at least three hours on two Sundays in succession in trying to get medicines supplied to them?

Mr. Walker-Smith

The hon. Gentleman will be aware of the facilities which are available in Dagenham and adjoining areas on Sundays. Of course, at a time of heavy incidence of influenza chemists come under severe pressure, but I am glad to say that the influenza is well past its peak.
