§ 3. Mr. Brockwayasked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what progress has been made in the establishment of a Legislative Council for Bechuanaland.
§ Mr. AlportI have nothing to add to the reply I gave my hon. Friend the Member for Haltemprice (Mr. Wall) on 19th February.
§ Mr. BrockwayIs the hon. Gentleman aware that that is some time ago and that one hopes that very rapid progress is being made in this very hopeful development in a British Protectorate?
§ Mr. AlportOn that occasion I said to my hon. Friend who asked the Question that my noble Friend hoped to reply to the Joint Advisory Council of the Protectorate at its next meeting in April. I am sure that the House will think it proper that, as that reply is in response to a Resolution of the Council, the information regarding my noble Friend's decision should be conveyed to it first.
