§ 41. Mr. A. Robertsasked the Paymaster-General what recent report he has received, in accordance with Section 3 (4) of the Coal Industry Nationalisation Act, from the National Coal Board regarding the closure of pits in the year 1960.
§ Mr. MaudlingMy noble Friend does not regard this subject as appropriate to Section 3 (4), but he expects it to be dealt with in conjunction with the National Coal Board's long-term plan now under review.
§ Mr. RobertsWhat consideration has been given to this matter in the immediate future in view of the apprehension that now exists in the coalfields?
§ Mr. MaudlingAs I think the hon. Member is aware, we have already said that there will be no further special closures in 1959. What is contemplated in 1960 will become apparent when the National Coal Board's plan comes forward in the near future.
