HC Deb 09 June 1959 vol 606 c796
20. Mr. A. Henderson

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will state the policy of Her Majesty's Government with a view to safeguarding the British hollow-ware trade from unfair competition in its overseas markets.

The Minister of State, Board of Trade (Mr. J. K. Vaughan-Morgan)

I am not clear as to the particular forms of competition the right hon. and learned Gentleman has in mind. Nor does he specify the markets to which he is referring, and conditions, of course, vary. If, however, he has evidence that dumping or subsidisation is taking place and is causing material injury to the United Kingdom industry, we would be prepared to consider whether Her Majesty's Government could usefully or practicably intervene.
