§ 47. Mr. Hamiltonasked the Paymaster-General what steps are being taken to utilise slurry as fuel in electricity generating stations; and whether he will make a statement on the negotiations now proceeding for the siting of such a station in Fife.
§ Sir I. HorobinThe National Coal Board are in continuous consultation with the Central Electricity Generating Board and the South of Scotland Electricity Board about the use of slurry in power stations. These discussions have led to a significant increase in the use of this fuel for electricity generation over the last four years.
My noble Friend understands that the negotiations between the National Coal Board and the South of Scotland Electricity Board over the proposed station in Fife are making good progress.
§ Mr. HamiltonWhilst thanking the hon. Gentleman for that reply, can he give us any indication of when the negotiations are likely to reach a definite conclusion?
§ Sir I. HorobinI cannot give a date, but they are going well, and obviously it is to the advantage of both parties that they should come to a conclusion, so I think we can be hopeful in the matter.
