§ 56. Mr. Langford-Holtasked the Paymaster-General in view of the facilities given to engineers of the Mitsubishi 28 Nippon Heavy Industries Company, Yokohama, to inspect s.s. "Methane Pioneer", of which the Gas Council is joint owner with the Constock International Methane Company, United States of America, and, in view of the fact that the information gained is to be used in the construction of two 30,000-ton natural gas carriers in Japan in competition with United Kingdom shipbuilders, whether he will give a general direction to the Gas Council not to allow such facilities to be given to foreign engineers, thus ensuring that ships which are chartered in future by the Gas Council are built either in the United Kingdom or the United States of America.
§ Mr. MaudlingMy noble Friend has received the assurance of the Gas Council that no such facilities have been granted to Japanese engineers or are in contemplation.
