HC Deb 23 July 1959 vol 609 cc1496-7
19. Sir A. Hurd

asked the President of the Board of Trade how the current imports of printers' ink from France and elsewhere compare with those of a month ago.

Sir D. Eccles

Imports of printers' ink from France were negligible in May and June. Supplies from other countries totalled 78 cwt. in May and 326 cwt. in June. No statistics for July are available.

Sir A. Hurd

Will my right hon. Friend agree that these are very large and significant imports of printers' ink? As the daily newspapers said when the printing dispute started that they had only three days' supply of ink, have any representations about these imports been made by Mr. Briginshaw?

Sir D. Eccles

So far as the Board of Trade is concerned, imports of printers' ink are on open general licence. That is as far as my responsibility extends.
