54. Mrs. Whiteasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what proposals he has made concerning an increase or decrease of seats for representatives of the Out Islands in the Bahamas House of Assembly.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydNone, Sir.
Mrs. WhiteIs the right hon. Gentleman not aware that certain proposals have been made which might have the effect of increasing the representation of some of the Out Islands which are already over-represented? Will he assure the House 1522 that he will not be influenced by a report in a local newspaper that the Out Island voters have shown themselves to be in a great majority conservative by tradition?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydNo, I will not be influenced by that suggestion, however tempting it might be at this time. I found out for myself when I made a careful study on the spot that matters of this kind cannot be settled by arithmetical considerations alone.
