HC Deb 21 July 1959 vol 609 c1058
33. Lady Tweedsmuir

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has now considered the representations he has received as to the establishment of a nuclear power station at Crimond; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. N. Macpherson

The North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board has no immediate need for a nuclear power station and has not yet reached the stage of deciding whether it will require one in later years. It has been examining various possible sites, including one at Crimond, but has so far made no firm proposals to my right hon. Friend.

Lady Tweedsmuir

Will my hon. Friend say whether representations have been made that when it comes to choosing a site Crimond should be examined with great care, because it will without doubt bring a lot of employment to the area if the project is established there?

Mr. Macpherson

Yes, Sir; representations have been made. As I say, that is one of the sites which have already been examined.
