28. Mr. Gresham Cooke
asked the Postmaster-General if, in order to avoid constant reference to telephone directories, he will advise subscribers in exchanges surrounding London to print the code number of their exchange, where such is applicable, on their notepaper.
§ Mr. K. Thompson
I am grateful to my hon. Friend for his suggestion, and I am sorry that I cannot adopt it. These code numbers can be used only for calls by London subscribers. Other subscribers have to use different codes to dial the same exchange. To show the London code on notepaper could, therefore, be confusing.
Mr. Gresham Cooke
I am absolutely amazed that my hon. Friend should turn down my most excellent suggestion.
