HC Deb 02 July 1959 vol 608 cc609-10
42. Mr. Rankin

asked the President of the Board of Trade what further steps he is taking to assist in increasing the export of British films as a result of his recent meeting with the British Film Producers Association.

Sir D. Eccles

I had a most useful discussion with the film producers and am considering if I can help them on certain problems to which they drew special attention.

Mr. Rankin

While I appreciate that there are foreign curency difficulties with certain countries and restrictive practices in the case of others, may I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether he realises that, with the almost inevitable fall in home sales, it is necessary, if we are to keep production in a reasonably healthy state, that we should do something to increase our export of film products?

Sir D. Eccles

I have that in mind We are making a special approach to the German Government and we are also considering whether something can be done in Argentina.
