§ 22. Miss Burtonasked the Minister of Education whether, in view of the serious and increasing difficulty school leavers are having in finding employment, he will convene an immediate meeting of Youth Service leaders to find out what suggestions they have for expanding the Youth Service to help in this problem.
§ Sir E. BoyleNo, Sir. The Committee which my right hon. Friend appointed in November to advise him about the Youth Service is already considering this problem.
§ Miss BurtonIs not the hon. Gentleman aware that we do not want to wait until that excellent Committee reports on this very urgent problem? Is he not aware that many of the young people 392 who are unemployed belong to youth clubs? Will he not instil some urgency into his right hon. Friend to discuss this matter with youth club leaders?
§ Sir E. BoyleOf course we want to discuss this matter with all those who can make a helpful contribution, but it is the view of my right hon. Friend that the Committee, under the chairmanship of Lady Albemarle, should review the Youth Service in a general way. I remind the hon. Lady that responsibility for advising young people of employment specifically rests with the Youth Employment Service, and I know that that service is doing all it can to help.
