HC Deb 22 January 1959 vol 598 c398
31. Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the President of the Board of Trade if, with a view to assisting international trade and in the light of the foreign currency that can be earned, he will now remove all the continuing restrictions on the export of non-ferrous metal scrap.

Sir D. Eccles

I understand that representations on this matter are likely to be made by both scrap merchants and users; I shall consider their views as soon as I receive them.

Mr. Gresham Cooke

As the export of non-ferrous scrap is practically the only thing which is still controlled, and as I understand merchants are in favour of exporting this scrap and think that they can earn foreign currency thereby, does not the right hon. Gentleman agree that the time has arrived to get rid of this rather out-of-date regulation?

Sir D. Eccles

We must await the representations which I understand are coming.
