HC Deb 26 February 1959 vol 600 cc1290-1
47. Mr. Hamilton

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether any inquiries have yet been made about the textile mill closed several months ago at Prinlaws, Fife.

Sir D. Eccles

The Board of Trade has so far received no inquiries.

Mr. Hamilton

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that this textile mill has considerable importance and that the women who were displaced when the company went into voluntary liquidation—mainly as a result of the Government's policy—were subsequently unemployed and find it very difficult to get alternative employment? Will he have regard to that fact in bringing the factory to the notice of industrialists?

Sir D. Eccles

Yes, I will. We do not normally assist a private owner to dispose of his property, but we have made an exception in this case for the reasons the hon. Member gave.
