§ 40. Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Minister of Labour how many men, and in what trades, were unemployed as a result of the recent stoppage of work on the extension of the Station Hotel, Aberdeen; and how many have now been found employment.
§ Mr. Iain MacleodTwo labourers were discharged in April, 1958, when work on this contract was discontinued; at this distance of time it is not possible to trace the subsequent employment history of the men concerned.
§ Mr. HughesIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that not only two labourers but a number of other artisans were dismissed when this work was discontinued? Is he not aware that this extension is needed for Aberdeen, where there are nearly 5,000 unemployed? What is the right hon. Gentleman doing to absorb those unemployed?
§ Mr. MacleodI think that supplementary question went rather better at rehearsal.
§ Mr. HughesOn a point of order. In view of that cavalier reply to my supplementary question, I beg to give notice that I shall raise the matter on the Adjournment at the earliest opportunity.
