HC Deb 12 February 1959 vol 599 c1346
36. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the present political and economic condition of British Guiana.

Mr. J. Amery

I would refer the hon Member to the very full reply which my hon. Friend gave to the hon. Member for Eton and Slough (Mr. Brockway) on 20th November, 1958. There have been no major developments since then.

Mr. Bottomley

May I ask the Under-Secretary of State when the discussions are likely to take place to deal with constitutional progress? Can he tell us what capital has been received to help British Guiana in its present desperate economic situation?

Mr. Amery

As I have said, I have nothing new to say on this subject at present.
